Go on the Max Factor website, it gives you loads of tips, not just foundation, but all other make-up, in fact I think there is a quiz, you answer about 6 questions and it comes up with the perfect foundation for your skin type!! It really works!! Just google 'max factor' or if you have msn, add maxfactor@live.co.uk as a friend and it gives you instant make-up tips!!! Hope this helps!!Make-Up advice, i want to wear foundation but don't know where to start or what to buy?
Any high-quality, name brand works well. I use bare minerals, it's powder works great and it leaves me with a flawless look. For foundation mac works good, urban decay works good too. When you pay top dollar you're usually getting what you're paying for so it's well worth it. Laura Mecier foundation works the best!

Oh and when applying don't use sponges, make sure you are using BRUSHES. For foundation you can use a brush too, but your fingers work the best for that.
If you are skin is good %26amp; you need to hide or perfect anything, a tinted moisturizer is better for you (esp if you are a teen, as most people have really good skin at this age %26amp; foundation hides their beautiful fresh skin %26amp; looks awful in my view). With tinted moisturizer, they look fresh %26amp; natural.

The first rule of foundation is that it should mat5ch your skin exactly, don't belive people who say get a shade darker or lighter to change youe skin tone, that ends up looking fake/orangey %26amp; not natural. If you want to change the tone of your skin, this is best done by blusher.

To find the right colour, use the samples and put it on your jaw line on bare skin and blend it in. If (in natural light) the foundation blends into your skin, making it look natural and not noticeable, you have your match!

if your skin type is dry. oily or combination, then you should buy foundation accordingly.

Liquid suits most types.

Dry: wear liquid only one or better still a moisturizing liquid one.

Oily: I don't know much about this one except wear oil-free ones (there's loads on the market) %26amp; compact..you can wear mousse also but personally I don't like it %26amp; think mousse doesn't look natural %26amp; doesn't blend very well.

For normal or combi skin, wear liquid (you can wear other types but it's best when you are more experienced %26amp; you know what suits you).

I don't know what to recommend for tinted moisturizer as I don't wear it (I have to hide my blemishes etc!) but there's loaqds on the market %26amp; depending on how much you want to spend, you can find them in almost every brand (except the drugstore ones)...I think Boots Botanicals do one.

These are the foundations I like:

For expensive foundations, I highly recommend:

Girogio Armani Luminous Silk foundation: gives you a lovely glow, looks natural %26amp; doesn't clog pores %26amp; blends in well. It's one of my top favourites. It has buildable coverage (I'd say medium).

Available at some House of Fraser stores, Harvey Nichols, Harrods %26amp; also Selfridges. (I think about 拢27)

Also, Giorgio Armani Face Fabric. This one has won the Marie Claire Prix D'Excellence Beauty award. It is superlight %26amp; looks flawless %26amp; natural. I'd say coverage is light (definitely less then the Luminous Silk); it is invisible makeup with a 3D Micro-fil鈩?technology.

As described on Marie Claire: ';...'Part cream, part powder and part tinted moisturiser, it鈥檚 whisper-light and goes onto the face invisibly creating a perfectly uniform colour that lasts the day.鈥?I think that's quite accurate when I tried it.

(about 拢27 also)

Another one which is also excellent is Chanel Pro Lumiere. Looks beautiful on the skin. (I think about 拢30)

For cheaper ones which are also very good quality:

Myface Mymix foundation (featured in Daily Mail; see below for details). It is excellent value for money, looks beautiful on the skin %26amp; as mentioned on Daily Mail: ';..looks as if you have had a facelift..';. Also, gives you a lovely glow %26amp; what I noticed it doesn't sit on the skin but blends in really well %26amp; also doesn't get into pores.

Only available at some Boots stores, please contact Boots to find out(拢12).

Article in daily Mail:

(scroll down to middle where it says in big letters in pink box: They Say, I Say)

(If you don't want to go for tinted moisturizer, the Mymix foundation one is a good one as it's not too heavy %26amp; looks gorggeous on the skin)

Revlon Colorstay: excellent quality %26amp; lasts a long time. I'd say quite matte on the skin, fairly medium-high coverage.(拢12)

PS. With the more expensive ones, go to their counter, ask them to match your skin for the right colour, %26amp; to give you a small sample to try at home to see if it suits your skin %26amp; colouring %26amp; if you like it. That way you won't waste money.

*****TIP: Always wear moisturizer about 5 minutes before applying foundation. It makes your foundation go on smoother %26amp; more evenly.A really good one that moisturizes well is Boots Traditional range Moisturizer

**TIP: If you want to achieve a natural look, only apply foundation to those areas of the face that actually needs coverage; such as redness, uneven skin tone etc..This will avoid the cakey look %26amp; gives a really natural look!
firt make sure that you are nor overapplying, also make sure that its your skin color. there are a LOTTT of videos on youtube teaching how to apply foundation the right way, it took me like so long to finally apply it the right way. make sure you use a makeup brush and apply in circular motions away from the center of your face . also use a foundation primer like ';smashbox photofinish primer'; itll help your makeup go on smoother and last all day. so i hope this helpd!
i use clinique an i love it.

if you go to dillards or macys you can go up to the counter and they'll match youre skin to the make up color and theyll tell you which foundation is best for your skin type. if you dont like it you can return it witrhin 30 days. i heard that bare minerals is good too.
You need to know your skin type, is your skin oily, dry, combination, normal?

Find that out first,

Secondly, you should watch this video on how to apply foundation properly so there's no cakiness or streaks or anything:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNPqTa5DT鈥?/a>

you don't need to use the same products, it's just like, a guide.

Now, since you're just starting out, there's nothing wrong with a drugstore brand, but this video will show you which ones are worth it and which ones will make you break out, clog your pores, look orange, etc, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZmshtkIu鈥?/a> = part 2

good luck!! Just practise and remember foundation isn't meant to be a mask =]
try MAC !

expensive but worth it !!! the liquid foundation works wonderful gives you that airbrush finish!!

Your probably better starting with a tinted moisturiser like You Rebel by Benefit, it gives a more subtle coverage so you can get used to it rather than going straight for the full coverage which can feel heavy. :D x
I mostly end up beginning low end and using several types. Do what fits your situation and Im pretty sure your gut will be correct.
bobbi brown sells the best foundation by FAR
whatever you use make sure it is 1 shade darker then your actual skin tone and that you apply it evenly and it will look perfect. good luck :D
