Make Up:Foundation or Powder?

I'm no expert on make up infact I try and avoid it cause it may be bad for my skin but now I realize that I may need it for special occasion so I was wondering if you guys could help me with choosing make up like foundation or powder which ever is best for my dark skin shade. I used dream matte by maybeline it was too dark and there was no shade closest to my skin colour, so yeah I don't know how to choose make up lol

Get a nice tinted moisturiser (Boots Botanics is excellent) which is not too heavy and then finish with Maybelline minerals powder which lasts all dayMake Up:Foundation or Powder?
It's a personal choice whether you should go for liquid or powder. Powder works best for oily skin. Liquid is better for those with dry or combo skin. you need to go out there and try different brands to decide what you like. I personally like liquid....
I agree. I would go to a department store. I would deffinately check out MAC for sure. I just started buying this makeup and it is an investment for sure but having a good foundation for your face is like having a good foundation for your house. The MAC artists can match you up with their products quickly an easily, but you'll have to watch it because they are sales people too so be firm if you are not interested in buying after trying on the products. When you get there explain to them what kind of skin you deal with before you wash your face in the morning and after you wash your face, because this can guide them to what time of product will be best for you as your question states here. Foundation or Powder?
Foundation- Thick liquid that covers well.

Powder- Not as good coverage, yet better for your skin!

Hope I helped!

Try Loreal Paris Tru Match! :)

Angie :)
Maybeliene Powder mineral foundatiom. You can find the right colour shade.

The best thing to do is go into a store such as Debenhams or Boots where the staff there can give you free make-up advice and will give you a make-over so you can see how it looks.

Different make-up companies will have different shades i'm sure. Powder will be less heavy than foundation, so it is up to you what look you are going for as to whether you choose foundation or powder.
go into a department store or sephora and get color matched - foundation is the one of the things you should always spend a little bit more money on .

try mac , clinique , mufe , bobbi brown etc
You need a brand that has numerous in-between shades for women of caramel/chocolate/cinnamon complexion.

Having said that...

IMAN is awesome. It was created by an African model, primarily for African/Black skin tones.

MAC has all these tones and shades to chose from for lovely darker skinned women as well. The product is great!

Fashion Fair is good too.

Go to the make up counters at the mall and they will find the right shade for you in less than 10minutes. You cant guess with foundation. If you want to be 100% sure, ask for samples, and try them at home to see how the color will fair in natural sunlight.

I prefer liquid foundations. They are easier to blend into your skin, and the bottles last longer. But try both at the make up counter and see what effect given from each you prefer.

it will help you decide what to use and what shade to choose that will suit your skin! i got some useful help from there to!
powder
check out Coonobabe, email them and ask them for advice they have makeup experts online 24/7
i saw go for MAC's mineralize skin finish. it pricey but since you're only wearing it for special occasions and it lasts a long time, then you'll be fine. and MAC caters well for women of colour (yea!!!!). its a powder foundation and its really easy to put on, plus the amazing people in the stores can actually show you how to use it. (just go in for the foundation - they push you to get something else! MAC's too good to say no, so BEWARE!). or, if you ever get into some cash, then try bobbi brown cosmetics - she caters to women of all skin colours, its ridiculous!!!! they also last long, so i guess the price doesnt really matter. but if you're worried about makeup on your skin, try bare minerals cosmetics. they cater to women of colour as well and their makeup is natural (at least, i think so....). the bare minerals is kind of messy if you're in a rush but thats why i highly recommend the MAC's mineralize skin finish. its an amazing powder - you will love it.
i use Dinair Airbrush Makeup and its really awesome. Its super light weight and all water based so its not bad for your skin....it makes my skin look flawless and stay on all day. I bought it 2 years ago and i LOVE it...if u just google Dinair you can look through their site and the pics and stuff. They have tons of shades. I sent in my pic through an e-mail and they told me which color to choose. Anywho i hope i helped...=)
I would reccommend maybelline pure makeup (the one that's 50% water) for beginners because it doesn't feel like you're wearing anything at all. Then use Neutrogena healthy skin blends translucent powder on top (it's very sheer, but it will still keep your makeup in place).
I like Avon's mineral makeup, it's a light powder foundation and comes in a lot of dark shades and they offer a money back guarantee. Check it out at www.youravon.com/jlukacs
I would go ahead and choose a foundation. Although choosing a foundation may be scary because you said that you might have had a bad reaction to make-up products, choose a mineralized foundation. Mineral foundation will not only give you the coverage you need, but give you the coverage without clogging your pores and making your skin feel like you have a mask. I personally like Everyday Minerals because they have a wide arrange of colors to accomodate your dark skintone, but they are only available online. Drugstores also have a variety of mineral foundations that offer great skin benefits comparable to the department store brands. I would not choose a powder for your special occasion, unless you're pairing it on top of a foundation because a powder will virtually give you no coverage what so ever. Hope this helped!
Try a tinted moisturizer and set it with a translucent powder (one with a darker tint). Foundations are too heavy for summer
